Complained to Danny I spend entirely too much time lusting after lenses and he said that is true when you should be spending entirely too much time using just one lens and shooting as much as possible. There’s some obvious credence to this, but with the dayjob it’s hard to do more than one “extracurricular” project at a time. However, we’re nearing the end of one, which will free time for another, and if all goes according to plan, I’ll be making more moving images again in Feb and definitely in March. All those directors like Reichardt who say it pays to have a dayjob are correct, but, man, does it take discipline to get the real work done when the paid work demands so much energy. I’ve never seen a Swanberg but I respect the hell out of him for simply doing/making things with no eyes to the side. I don’t quite understand how he’s able to support himself, but that’s not really my business. In any case, this is some of why the home base blog stopped being so prolific. Not that I think it’ll ever regain the kind of importance in my life as it once held, but, it may see more concretely image-driven updates in 2012.
